We just recently announced that Casting Crowns will be coming to Rupp Arena on October 8th. With Kings of Leon two days after, The Incredible Food Show the weekend before, and a yet-to-be-announced show, October is already looking to be a busy month. We are working on doing some exciting things on the blog surrounding those events, like perhaps more interviews similar to the one we did about a week ago, and an even more exciting thing that I can’t mention yet that will be the coolest thing we have done to date.
I thought it might be fun to see what everyone’s favorite memories from Rupp Arena are. We have had a TON of concerts, basketball, hockey, arena football, circuses, bull riding [I could go on forever]…, so there should be tons of memories to be had. Leave a comment with your Top 10 Rupp Arena memories. Be as specific or vague as you like, and just for kicks, we will randomly choose one of the comments and mail that person a Rupp Arena Blog tshirt. Hit the jump below to check out my own Top 10 List. This past Saturday the Horsemen met helmets with the Tennessee Valley Vipers in their third to last game of the season. This game was very pivotal for both teams. If the Vipers won then they would tie for first place in the conference. If the Horsemen won then they would secure a playoff berth, and put themselves in the running to be able to steal first place in the conference as well. With some awesome scoring in the second and third quarter and some amazing defense, the Horsemen pulled out a win last Saturday. That put them on a four game winning streak with two more games left in the season. If they win their two last games they have a chance of tying for first place in the conference. Congrats Horsemen! Show your support this Saturday at their last home game.
Like cooking? How about Bobby Flay? So do we! The Incredible Food Show [get it? E-D-I-B-L-E]is now on-sale via Lexington Center Box Office, Ticketmaster.com, and all Ticketmaster outlets. Rupp Arena and the Lexington Center are playing host to a food exhibit show on October 3rd & 4th, presented by Kentucky Proud. There will be exhibitors, a show by Sullivan University, and best of all, 2 shows with Food Network’s Chef Bobby Flay. There are many different ticket options for just the show, or with Bobby Flay. Check out The Incredible Food Show website for more details.
As I mentioned earlier, we had an interview with the Fillies this week. For those unaware [where have you been?], the Fillies are the cheerleaders for the Kentucky Horsemen, the arena football team that plays here at Rupp Arena. We thought since there are only two home games left (July 11th & July 18th), we would get the word out in case people wanted to catch a game, and also give you some insight into what it is to be a Fillie. Check out the interview below (click here to watch in high definition), the first of many interviews we plan to do from now on.
This past week, another opener was announced for the Jonas Brothers World Tour 2009, which is coming to Rupp Arena on August 23rd. The Wonder Girls, an all girl dance-pop group from South Korea, will be joining Jordin Sparks and Honor Society on tour with the Jonas Brothers. With four acts, it should be a long night, but with a lot of variety. As with all the other shows, as we get closer I will start to profile each opener.
Tomorrow morning, we will be interviewing the Fillies, the cheerleaders for the Horsemen. It will be a video interview for the Rupp Arena Blog. Since this is for the blog, we want you to submit questions you would like to see answered. We will choose 5 of the questions submitted and use them (as well as some others) in the interview. If your question is chosen, you will have your name and location mentioned in the interview, and will win a pair of tickets to each of the last Horsemen home games. Sounds pretty sweet huh? All you have to do to enter is comment here with your question as well as your name and city you are from. Be sure to use your email you want us to contact you at when commenting. Each person can submit up to 5 different questions. You have until tomorrow morning at 9:00am to submit them, so don’t waste any time!
This contest is now over. Check your email to see if you won!
Tomorrow is Red, White & Boom! in the Cox Street Parking Lot behind Rupp Arena. The gates open at 3:00pm and between the six artists there, you will be able to listen to music for nearly 9 hours straight. As the last of our features this week, I wanted to introduce you to Hank Williams Jr. Oh, you have heard of him already? I guess I shouldn’t be surprised seeing as how he has had 96 hit singles, and won over 24 awards. To change things up from the other features, instead of having part of an interview, I embedded a clip from his recent appearance on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. Hit the jump below to check out the video. Read the rest of this entry »
Red, White & Boom! is only two days away! In today’s Pre-Boom feature, we take a look at Keith Anderson, a Oklahoma native who has had his fair share of albums and hit songs. Most should know his songs, or at least recognize his name. Keith will be one of the artists performing this Saturday, and will take the stage right before Hank Williams Jr. Hit the jump below to check out part of an interview that The Boot had with him about his vocal surgery he underwent a few months ago. Rest assured, he is back on the road and better than ever! Read the rest of this entry »
For today’s Pre-Boom, we highlight Justin Moore, who comes from Poyen, Arkansas. Most people will recognize Justin from his hit song last year, “Back That Thing Up,” or from his current hit “Small Town USA,” which is from his upcoming self-titled album that releases this August. Hit the jump below to check out part of an interview that Today’s Country Magazine had with Justin. Read the rest of this entry »
