I thought it might be fun to see what everyone’s favorite memories from Rupp Arena are. We have had a TON of concerts, basketball, hockey, arena football, circuses, bull riding [I could go on forever]…, so there should be tons of memories to be had. Like cooking? How about Bobby Flay? So do we! The Incredible Food Show [get it? E-D-I-B-L-E]is now on-sale via Lexington Center Box Office, Ticketmaster.com, and all Ticketmaster outlets. Rupp Arena and the Lexington Center are playing host to a food exhibit show on October 3rd & 4th, presented by Kentucky Proud. There will be exhibitors, a show by Sullivan University, and best of all, 2 shows with Food Network’s Chef Bobby Flay. There are many different ticket options for just the show, or with Bobby Flay. The Jonas Brothers kicked off their world tour this past Saturday, June 20th down at the new Cowboys Stadium in Dallas, TX. There were around 50,000 fans there to greet the trio and their openers (Honor Society and Jordin Sparks). As a special surprise to the fans, Miley Cyrus made a surprise appearance and sang “Before the Storm,” a song she collaborates with the Jonas Brothers on, which is featured on their new CD. If you want to see the Jonas Brothers and Miley Cyrus performing, it’s nothing a quick YouTube search can’t find. The Jonas Brothers will be hitting the stage at Rupp Arena on August 23rd, and Miley Cyrus will be doing the same on November 1st.

A long time ago, in a decade far far away, Rupp Arena opened its doors for the first time with a Lawrence Welk concert on October 17th, 1976. Ever since then we have hosted a wide variety of legendary artists, hall-of-famers, and some one-hit wonders here and there as well. Using an excel document we had and various employees’ knowledge I have been able to compile a list of all the events Rupp Arena has hosted. To my amazement, we have had AC/DC here six times, Lynyrd Skynyrd seven times, KISS eight times, and hundreds of other legendary groups which plotted their course through Lexington during their heyday.

The Jonas Brothers just released their latest CD today, titled Lines, Vines and Trying Times. Their new CD is only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to what the trio is up to lately. They will be kicking off the Jonas Brother World Tour 2009 with an appearance on the Today show Toyota Concert Series this Friday, June 19th. In addition to that they also have a new show on the Disney Channel. It seems like the Jonas Brothers are everywhere now-a-days. They will be hitting our stage at Rupp Arena on August 23rd.

For those looking to get a little extra insight into Rupp Arena, we offer two options to appease your appetite. As some of you may know, Rupp Arena has a Facebook page, and is also on Twitter. Our Twitter is a great way to get simple updates throughout the day, like event announcements, on-sale dates, photos from load-ins (via Twitpic), and quick news about day-to-day arena life. Our Facebook page is the best way for you to interact with other fans. Before a show, you can RSVP to the event and see who else is going, suggest it to your friends, and stay in-the-know with our status updates. After the show you can stop by to check out photos from the event and tag yourself and your friends. We run giveaways and contests on both Facebook and Twitter, so you may even be able to snag yourself some swag or free tickets. So if you haven’t had a chance to yet, stop by and show your support!

If you haven’t heard already Coach John Calipari, ‘UKCoachCalipari,’ is on Twitter! Within the span of 3 months he has already amassed over 100,000 followers and it doesn’t look like he’s stopping there. So if you’re into UK Basketball we’d definitely recommend you follow him. He sends out tweets throughout the day, ranging from motivational advice, to talk about his family, and of course, announcements and updates about UK Basketball. This last Friday night Lexington welcomes Rodney Carrington to Rupp Arena. Rodney is known for his southern comedy and as a singer. The show kicked off with music videos that he starred in playing on a big screen, as well as a trailer of a movie starring him and Toby Keith. As soon as he took the stage the fans roared with applause. He jumped right into his routine with one punch line after the other.

Lions, Tigers, and Jugglers! Oh My! Cirque Dreams was truly a Jungle Fantasy! The title of the show does not give justice to the unique performances that took place! It was so jammed packed with entertainment, it was impossible to get bored!
