Rodney Carrington at Rupp Arena

This last Friday night Lexington welcomes Rodney Carrington to Rupp Arena. Rodney is known for his southern comedy and as a singer. The show kicked off with music videos that he starred in playing on a big screen, as well as a trailer of a movie starring him and Toby Keith. As soon as he took the stage the fans roared with applause. He jumped right into his routine with one punch line after the other.

A few things became very evident watching Rodney. First off, he is definitely an experienced comedian. He knows how to handle himself on the stage and how to handle the audience as well. Another thing I noticed was that he was very good at making fun of himself, which I think is a must for all successful comedians. Lastly, he seemed to be having a lot of fun on stage. You could tell he enjoyed what he was doing and had a lot of fun interacting with the crowd.

Rodney did a great job with his routine. The opener for him, another comedian, also did pretty well, despite copying a Richard Pryor skit almost word for word. It seemed like the crowd really enjoyed the both of them as well.
