Sweet 16 2009: Day 1

March19

Day 1 of the National City/KHSAA Boys’ Sweet 16® State Basketball Tournament has concluded. In fact, as I am writing this, Day 2 games are getting ready to begin. Each day I will post up the results of that day (who won, scores, etc.), and mention what can be seen on the current day for those interested in catching a game. Hit the jump below for Day 1 results.

Session 1 kicked off with West Jessamine (26-8) vs. Hazard (26-8). Although Hazard fought hard, West Jessamine ended up prevailing with 51 points to Hazards 40. The next game was Grayson County (25-6) vs. Adair County (26-7). Throughout this game, the lead changed between the teams. For a while it seemed as if Adair County had secured the win, but Grayson came back hard and won the game 45 to 33. They will face West Jessamine at noon on Friday.

Session 2 brought some amazing games. The closest game of the day was Central (16-14) vs. Graves County (23-9). Both teams really gave it their all in this excellent game, but Central ended up winning with a 53 to 51 victory. After them was Eastern (30-2) vs. Corbin (29-3). It was another good game with lots of offensive action creating the highest scoring game of the day. Eastern pulled through with the win, having 75 points to Corbin’s 61.

Stay tuned for more recaps as Sweet 16 continues this week.
