Jeff Dunham: Spark of Insanity

February16

Jeff Dunham was truly exciting, edgy and invigorating to watch! Between watching the comedy from his puppets, to the opening comedic monologue, to the encore presentation with puppet Bubba J, I laughed so hard my cheeks hurt by the end of the night. His on-stage charismatic personality made the entire night just seem to fly by.

The show began with (I guess you could refer to him as a comedian) Guitar Guy, Brian Haner. His performance started off a little slow as he dove right into ordinary jokes about his family and himself. But as he progressed into his specialty, writing and playing comedic songs, he started slowly gaining my attention. His specialty definitely was his guitar playing, but the songs that he wrote were funny because they related to things that were happening in the media; but instead giving them a different twist to make them funny. To end his set, he played part of the Star Spangled Banner in a rock-and-roll theme, which was really awesome to listen to in person; he was a great guitarist!

Next they took a quick 15 minute intermission and then Jeff Dunham came on! He started the show with a few minutes of dialogue where he told us he was held at gunpoint by military personnel in an Area 51 part of an airport. And what was even funnier was that Achmed the Dead Terrorist was the one who saved him! It was totally entertaining to listen to and the funniest part was it was all true. So after his quick monologue he went right into “Walter.”

I didn’t really have a favorite puppet, but Walter came pretty close. As someone who has only seen a few seconds of his famous Achmed, I didn’t really know what to expect with any of the other puppets. Walter was like your grumpy old grandpa that didn’t mind telling it like it was. After a few minutes of Walter, Achmed the Dead Terrorist came on. One thing is for sure is that Achmed always makes me laugh; it was definitely Achmed at his best. And then after Achmed was Peanut. I had never even seen Peanut before; he was definitely a crazy puppet. I think Peanut’s set was the longest and in the middle of his skit, Jose Jalapeño on a Stick came on. He has a much more laid back personality compared to Peanut, which made for some real funny comedy. Jeff finally ended with just Peanut and thanked the crowd. He definitely keeps ventriloquism entertaining to watch because all of his puppets have drastically different voices and different personalities. You can also tell that he improvises some of his jokes on every skit, so it’s always a little different, even if you have seen it before.

After he thanked the crowd, he came back on stage. Jeff said he had gotten so many emails from local people to have his puppet Bubba J (I believe that he retired Bubba J for this tour) do an encore presentation because he was such a local favorite, he decided to do a quick skit with him. So as soon as Jeff started talking to Bubba J, the crowd chimed in and started mimicking Bubba J’s answers; it was so hilarious! It definitely made Jeff laugh, since the crowd knew the skit so well they could recite the lines. I thought it was the best part of the show! After his encore with Bubba J, he brought out some t-shirt shooters and shot t-shirts into the crowd. I loved that he was so engaging with everyone and even though there were approximately 7,500 people in the arena, it seemed like a much more intimate crowd.

I think what really makes Jeff Dunham so good at ventriloquism is that he is so great with having the puppets interact with the crowd, giving them they appearance that they are truly more than just a puppet. I promise, when you are sitting there in the audience, it looks like two people up on stage having a conversation. He makes it seem so easy, even when he is carrying a conversation on with two puppets, doing the movements and voices for both puppets and talking in his regular voice. If you ever get to see him in a live performance, I would definitely recommend it; he is so engaging with audience, I guarantee you will love it!

Jeff Dunham is the bomb, we haved owned a couple DVD's for a year plus and have shared them with family members which now love him as well. The Military (Area 51) story was a hoot, I bought my husband, my son and his wife a sets of tixs for Christmas (so I could go to!), from age 25-70 we all enjoyed the show. I would love to see him and other comedians come to town to perform. Thanks for a great afternoon!

The Jeff Dunham show was hilarious, was a great performance, however I do have one gripe. When I ordered our tickets, we were told the seating arrangement was half arena, meaning our seats were really close. When we arrived at the arena, the full lower arena was opened up and we were far back. It would have been nice to have been informed of this prior to the show. Other than that it was a great performance.

My husband and i thoroughly enjoyed Jeff, guitar guy and of course Walter, peanut ,Achmed and Bubba j. We laughed so much that my face hurt. I hope you can have him back soon and he needs to sell the doll's. If you can have the Blue Collar Tour we would definitely buy ticket's. Comedy is what we need now more than ever. I will be looking forward to another visit from Jeff and the gang. I'm one of Jeff's biggest fan's. Thanks Tonya

The show was awsome. Jeff Dunham is one of the funniest people in the world. Another comedian you should consider having perform at RUPP arena would be Dane Cook. If you've seen his shows online, you know he is hillarious just like Jeff Dunham, minus the dolls. :)

Am especially fond of Walter. Very much enjoyed
the skits with Guitar Man also.
Would love to see Jeff Dunham come back to
    Rupp Arena!!!
  • This was the first time i have seen Jeff and the gang. I just recently became a fan of his stand up and a huge fan of Walter but isnt everyone? I hope you all can bring him back. I would like to see Ron White again...maybe this time he'll be sober. Also their is a new comedian Jo Koy who is on Comedy Central pretty often who is pretty funny too. Im looking forward to many more good comedians in the coming months.

It's always a pleasure to watch Jeff Dunham. However Rupp Arena is a different story, I was fortunate to have seats up close, however they pack you in like SARDINES.(Can you really enjoy yourself sitting next to a drinking smelly person?)

I love Jeff! But, I was kind of shocked to see how "high" he was. The show still turned out wonderfully funny.

We purchased tickets for our son for his birthday!!!! He was so excited for the show that for weeks it is all he talked about. He and my husband are also big KY fans so it was exciting for him to be in Rupp Arena as well. The show was so great. He has talked about it for days!!! We look forward to our next trip to Rupp!!!! The knitting shops in Lexington were also great!!

My Husband and I attended the show and loved every minute of it! From Brian Haner opening the show (we knew he was a talented guitar player, but who knew he was so funny?!) to the encore with Bubba J! We have been fans of Jeff Dunham for a many years, so it was a real treat to have the opportunity to see a live show! Thanks so much to Rupp Arena for bringing Jeff's tour to the Bluegrass!

We have both been to Rupp Arena many times over the years and it's always been a great place for shows and sports. It would be cool to see more of the Comedy Central comedians perform here... all the Blue Collar Comedy guys, Gabriel Iglesias, Christopher Titus, and Katt Williams, to name a few.

Thanks again to Rupp for being such a great host!

The show was awesome, I have one of his DVD and have watched most of his shows from the Comedy Channel and was pleased with the new material. Jeff just keeps getting better and better. Walter is always priceless and it is true everyone seems to know a Walter. We had great seats, but the big screen was a definite plus. I would encourage everyone to see him live if given the opportunity. Shooting T-shirts at the end of the show was neat. He is very interactive with the audience.

I took my 14 year old son to this performance for his birthday. We loved every minute of it. This was our first visit to Rupp and plan on coming back for more perfromances. He has all Jeff's performances recorded from the comendy channel, and watches them on a regular basis. The only thing we would change is, for a longer performance. We did talk about how great it would be if the Blue Comedy Tour came to Rupp.
    Jeff and Brian ROCK!!

I actually bought the tickets for my daughters and myself as a birthday present to them. Jeff Dunham is AWESOME!! we all laughed until our faces hurt and tears were rolling down our faces. My choice for the next comedian at Rupp would be Ron White or possible Bill Engvall.

The show was a blast. Is there anyway to get a copy of the Jeff Dunham show at Rupp??? Achmed was the best part of the show..

The Jeff Dunham Show was great! Guitar guy was really good too.

This was our first visit to Rupp Arena and we have always LOVED Jeff Dunham and his entire family of Puppets AND Brian Haner. We first saw Jeff many years ago in the State Theatre at Kalamazoo, MI. His sets will never get tiring and you certainly go away thinking these puppets are truly alive!

Thank you Jeff, Brian & Gang and to Rupp Arena for making our introduction to the arena a fantastic experience. We can't wait to visit more events!
  • Teresa Bruner
I didn't go personally but gave the tickets as a Christmas present to my daughter's fiance. They had a great time. I was so happy to be able to give this gift to him because he is a big fan.
  • Don Prindle
What a show! Even though we were toward the back the BIG screen made it feel as if you were in the front row. The last time I was at RUPP was over 20 years ago for a YES concert and the place still rocks. You guys should look into doing an outdoor venue and kick it of with Jimmy Buffett.
