Monster Truck Finals This Weekend

The Hot Rod Truck Pull Winternationals Extreme Rock Racing & Monster Truck Finals are at Rupp Arena tonight and tomorrow. The Rupp Arena Blog got to ask one of the drivers, Rodney Tweedy (driver of Bigfoot #10), a few questions to find out some facts about the sport. Hit the jump to read Rodney’s responses to our questions.
Rupp Arena Blog: People see the trucks on TV and hear about them all the time. How often are you all driving and doing these events?
Rodney Tweedy: Well we have five trucks and are on the road just about every weekend.
RAB: Does Bigfoot have the same body design as when it was here in 2004?
RT: No. Mine is black with blue flames. Rick and other drivers’ are like an actual Firestone truck. Larry has one that is red and black and called the ‘Bad Boy Bigfoot.’
RAB: What is the latest Bigfoot?
RT: We are currently up to Bigfoot #16, although I drive Bigfoot #10
RAB: Is your truck any different from the others?
RT: I have an older style suspension that is different than all the others. It is what I am used to and I like it better, even though other people may like the newer suspension.
RAB: How have the trucks changed over the years?
RT: The seat used to be over on the side like it is in a regular truck, partly because the engine was located in the front and took up so much room. Now the engine is almost always in the back and the seat is in the center of the cab.
RAB: What is a random fact people may not know about the trucks?
RT: They cut 200 pounds of weight off the tires to round them. They still weight about 750 pounds though.
Thanks Rodney for answering some questions and letting us know more about the trucks and yourself.
